Women in UX, YouTube channels for designers, Bots from Hell, and more UX this weekWhat's hot in UX this week:
30 Women Rocking in UX to Celebrate the International Women's Day →Last Wednesday was International Women's Day. According to Wikipedia, in different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women for their economic, political and social achievements. That's what we're celebrating with this list: achievements. Despite all progress we are seeing in issues like gender equality, there is a lot of room for improvement. And there's no better way for helping young female designers realize their full potential in UX, than looking at other women who are already leading our discipline. The Best YouTube Channels for Designers and Developers → I just recently realized how much time I spend on YouTube everyday. To be more precise, about 50 minutes every single day. About three years ago I started developing the habit of opening the YouTube Subscriptions page every day to check out new videos from the channels I had subscribed to. More recently, I decided to subscribe to channels related to design and technology as well, and I'm surprised by how everyday there's at least one good video worth watching. 6 Lessons Learned in the First 6 Months Designing for IBM → In late July 2016, I began my exciting career as a UX Designer at IBM in Austin, TX. Here are six quick lessons I learned along the way. The card component is a preview of more detailed content a user sees when actioned. It has become a symbol of our current digital paradigm. Elements include multimedia, text, links, graphs, and captions. For one week we created and launched one chatbot per day on Facebook Messenger. All of them are pretty stupid, but we still learned something from it. How UberEats Could Make Group Ordering Simpler → For a group of users ordering food at the same time, include a conversation thread to bring everyone together. Instead of multiple orders for a single context, a single large order with individual choices makes more sense. Did Snapchat Succeed Because of its Controversial UI? → Snapchat's usability sucks. They even had to include ten black and white diagrams in their IPO filing just to help potential investors understand it. We found ourselves wondering just how the hell Snapchat became a $28 billion company with its Mad Hatter interface. Five Models for Making Sense of Complex Systems → In one of the classes I teach at CCA, students were confused by mental models, conceptual models, concept maps, etc. I ended up drawing a taxonomy for models on the whiteboard, and it may help others. Advantages of Prototyping from a Psychological Point of View → In software or design development, prototyping was shown to enhance communication between team members and customers, to provide early user feedback, and to save a lot of time and money. Here are some psychological aspects built upon these advantages which are rarely considered. There are a few things about UIs that I have come to appreciate (and strongly dislike) through various means. The first is through my own experience in what I'll call "visual dissonance". 3 Common Mistakes in Data Visualization → Communicating information through visual representation is a great way to make the data engaging and easy to understand. Here are some common mistakes to avoid to help you make the most of your data viz designs and get your point across. News & Ideas

A year ago…Find The Gaps In Your Product's Concept → This post brings a visual summary of Laura Klein great approach to analyzing your product's life cycle funnel. Think about how your product will perform at each stage, find the missing parts and brainstorm on how to fix them. Then go back to your wireframes and apply what you have learned to them. You can use this framework for both new and existing projects. Brought to you by your friends at uxdesign.cc Like the links? Share the love ♥ |
