Design is Diversity, UX Job Boards, Terrible Designs, and other UX links this weekWhat's hot in UX this week:
Design is Diversity: it's Time to Talk about our Role as Designers →As designers, we spend most of our day imagining and building experiences that, when added up, take a big portion of people's days and affect a lot the relationships they have with other people and with the world around them. We design sign up forms that ask people to define their ethnicity. We design profile pages where people define how they want to be seen in the world. We also design online forums, medical forms, services for citizens, social interactions, dating apps, learning platforms — the list is huge. Aren't we somehow responsible for more inclusive, diverse experiences? UX Job Boards: 24 Places to Find a Job → A lot of people ask about reliable sources to find UX and UI jobs online. The challenge is: job postings in our industry are very fragmented. Here are a few places for you to start your search. The Unnecessary Fragmentation of Design Jobs → Have you noticed the increasing number of vague specializations we've invented for ourselves? Here are a few I grabbed from a job board 10 minutes ago. Do You Know Where Your Icons Are? → This can be a scary question for designers. Is it on your laptop? Your old laptop? Is it in "icons_latest_jw_jan17.sketch" or "icons_final_FINAL? Why Terrible Designs Seem Like a Good Idea at the Time → As designers, our biases seep into our work and cause us to create concepts that seem like a great idea at the time… until we expose them to the light. A lot of designers overestimate the value of unique UI design for the success of a product. The truth is that it's actually hardly important at all. VSCO: More Than Just Filters → A redesign concept to encourage users to explore more features within the VSCO photo editing app. Every Week is a Design Sprint → An evil, hipster voice inside me says: I did design sprints before it was cool. Now, we use weekly design sprints as part of our ongoing design process. Inevitably, when I bring up the topic of designers working ethically, someone will reply with some flavor of "that's nice, but I have rent to pay"… How to use both web analytics and user testing data throughout the design process to create the best possible products for your customers. A year ago…Why Spotify's navigation is broken → If you're like me, you use Spotify a lot, in fact when Apple Music came out I tried it and I went from a Free Spotify user to a paid one. That's how great I think Spotify is. I tend to use Spotify 40% on my smartphone and 60% on the desktop. Using Spotify on the desktop is fast and what you expect from a great music client. On the phone it's a whole another story. Let's start with the navigation. Brought to you by your friends at uxdesign.cc. Like the links? Share the love ♥ |
